In this section of the guide to the Another WordPress Classifieds (AWPCP) plugin, we will take a look at how to Import Ads.

Step 1) Login to the WordPress Dashboard.

Step 2) From the left-hand sidebar of the Dashboard, navigate to Classifieds -> Import.

Step 3) Right mouse click over the links below and download these files to your desktop:

Step 4) To import Ads via a CSV File, you must provide a CSV file that is in the correct format.

Basic Fields

“title”, “details”, “contact_name”, “contact_email”, “category_name”, “contact_phone”,
“website_url”, “city”, “country”, “county_village”, “item_price”, “start_date”, “end_date”, ‘username’

Required Fields

“title”, “details”, “contact_name”, “contact_email”, “category_name”,
‘username’ (if present and Assign to User is checked, ignored otherwise)

If your CSV File contains the (,) comma or (‘) apostrophe character, you may need to remove these character prior to importing.

Importing CSV File & Separate Images

Step 5) Click the Browse button to locate and select the CSV File saved earlier.

If you want to import images within your Ads as well, you must provide a separate ZIP file with all the images contained in it. The names of these images should be referenced in the “images” column of your CSV file.

If you have multiple images for a single ad, you must separate them with the “Image Separator” character. (Semi-colon by default (;)). For example: image1.png;image2.gif;image3.jpg. Set the path to this file in the Zip containing images file textbox.

As of the writing of this guide, adding multiple images for an Ad, does not work. Our import file has been adjusted accordingly.

For this example, the Import page should now display as follows:

Start Date & End Date

Step 6) If you did not specify an Start Date and End Date in the CSV file, then enter these values in the textboxes as shown below:

Date Format

Step 7) Click to select the appropriate Date Format for the Start Date and End Date.

For this example, the default value of US Date Only (mm/dd/year) was not modified.

Separators Used in CSV

Step 8) If the Separators in the CSV File are different than those displayed below, modify as needed.

For this example, no changes were made.

Category Handling on Import

Step 9) Select an option from the dropdown list on how Categories are to be handled on Import.

For this example, Auto Create Categories was selected.

Assign Ads to a User & Select Specific User

Step 10) It is recommended that this checkbox be checked and a User be assigned to the Imported Ads.

For this example, all Imported Ads were assigned to Kathy, our Administrator.

Test Import & Import

Step 11) Click the Test Import button to see if everything was set up properly.

Step 12) When you are confident that you are ready to perform a actual Import, click the Import button which will load the AWPCP tables with the data configured above.

The next step of the guide will focus on AWPCP Debug.
