How to Configure the Blubrry PowerPress in Simple Mode – Step 1

In this section of the Blubrry PowerPress plugin, we will look at how to setup Step 1 of the Simple Mode Settings.

Simple Mode allows you to setup everything in three (3) easy steps.

For a more detailed setup, navigate to PowrPress -> Settings and click the Switch to Advanced Mode button.

Step 1) Login to the WordPress Dashboard.

Step 2) From the left-hand sidebar of the Dashboard, navigate to PowerPress -> Settings.

Create a Blubrry Account

By creating an account, you can:

Step 3) If you decide to create an account, navigate here to create a Blubrry Podcast Community Account.

Step 4) Check your email for an Activation Email from Blubrry and follow the instructions.

Step 5) Click the Click here to configure Blubrry Statistics and Hosting services button to configure these services.

For this example, we will not be signing up for this account and a checkmark is placed in the Remove Statistics from WordPress Dashboard checkbox.

Step 6) Click the Save Changes button to save any changes.

Podcast & iTunes Settings

Step 7) Complete the fields as shown below:

A. Program Title Enter a Program Title in this textbox. Leave this field empty to use the Blog Title.

For this example, this field was left blank to accept the Blog Title of Up, Up & Away.

B. iTunes Program Subtitle Enter a Program Subtitle in this textbox.

For this example, Experience Hot Air Ballooning was entered.

C. iTunes Program Summary Enter a summary of your iTunes Program in the text area shown below.

The summary may not contain HTML and cannot exceed 4,000 characters in length.

For this example, Learn how to Hot Air Balloon safely in these series of tutorials. was entered.

D. iTunes Category From the dropdown list, select the appropriate Category that your subject will fit in to.

To assign to more than one Category click the More hyperlink to display two additional Category dropdown lists.

For this example, the Category selected was Education > Training.

E. iTunes Explicit From the dropdown list, select the appropriate option.

For this example, the default value of No – Display Nothing was not changed.

F. iTunes Email Enter a valid email address in this textbox. iTunes will email this address when your podcast is accepted into the iTunes Directory.

Step 8) Click the Save Changes button to save any changes.

Artwork and Images

In this area, you may want to create an image for your listing on the iTunes Podcast Directory and this image may also be used by other directories like Blubrry. It is not the artwork that is displayed during episode playback. That artwork needs to be saved into the media file in the form of tags (ID3 tags for mp3) following the production of the media file.

This image for iTunes must be at least 1400 x 1400 pixels in a .jpg or .png format. A square 1400 x 1400 pixel image in .jpg format is recommended. The iTunes image must not exceed 3000 x 3000 pixels and must use RGB color space.

Step 9) Add the full path to this image in the textbox.

If you change the iTunes image without changing the file name it may take some time (days or even months) for iTunes to update the image in the iTunes Podcast Directory. Please contact iTunes Support if you are having issues with your image changes not appearing in iTunes.

Step 10) If you want to upload a different image, place a checkmark in the Upload new image, click the Browse button and select a different image to upload. Using this option should update your image on iTunes within 24 hours.

Step 11) Click the Save Changes button to save any changes.

Blog Posts & Pages

Step 12) From the Display Media & Links list of radio buttons, click to select the desired location.

For this example, the default value of Below page content was not changed. This means that the Player and Media Links will appear below the post and page content.

Step 13) After you have received an email confirmation from iTunes and are still experiencing issues with the Player and Media Links not displaying properly or at all, select the appropriate option from the Having Issues? dropdown list.

Step 14) Click the Save Changes button to save any changes.

Advanced Options

Step 15) Complete the fields as shown below:

G. Audio Player Options By default, this field is checked and read-only.

From the left-hand sidebar, navigate to PowerPress -> Audio Settings to configure these settings.

H. Video Player Options By default, this field is checked and read-only.

From the left-hand sidebar, navigate to PowerPress -> Video Settings to configure these settings.

I. Custom Podcast Channels Place a checkmark in this checkbox to manage multiple media files and/or formats to one blog post. This feature will appear in the left-hand menu when checked.

J. Category Podcasting Place a checkmark in this checkbox to manage podcasting for specific categories. This feature will appear in the left-hand menu when checked.

K. Meta Marks Place a checkmark in this checkbox to add additional meta information to your media for syndication. Click here to learn more. This feature will appear in episode entry box.

For this example, this field was checked.

L. Taxonomy Podcasting Place a checkmark in this checkbox to manage podcasting for specific taxonomies. This feature will appear in the left-hand menu when checked.

M. Post Type Podcasting Place a checkmark in this checkbox to manage multiple media files and/or formats to specific post types. This feature will appear in the left-hand menu when checked.

N. PowerPress Playlist Player Place a checkmark in this checkbox to create playlists for your podcasts. Click here to learn more.

For this example, this field was checked.

Step 16) Click the Save Changes button to save any changes.

Step 17) Notice that Step 1 now contains a checkmark.
