How to Obtain a BruteProtect API Key

In this section of the guide to the BruteProtect plugin, we will take a look at how to obtain a free API Key from BruteProtect.

To obtain a free API Key, perform the following steps:

Step 1) Login to the WordPress Dashboard.

Step 2) On the left-hand sidebar of the Dashboard navigate to BruteProtect.

Step 3) If you do not have an API Key, modify the email address (as needed) then click the Start Protecting My Site button.

Step 4) Place a check mark in the check box, then click the Save Settings button.

Step 5) Once you click the Save Settings button, BruteProtect sends an email containing the API Key to the email address entered in Step 3). Check your email for the API Key. This API Key is automatically stored on your site.

Step 6) From the My BruteProtect tab, click the Generate your access token hyperlink.

Step 7) A BruteProtect pop-up will appear. Click the Connect with WordPress.com button.

Step 8) Once you click the Connect with WordPress.com button, a new pop-up will appear.

If you have an existing Username and Password with WordPress.com, enter it here and click the Sign In button.

If you do not have an Account with WordPress.com, click the Need an Account? button.

Step 9) Once you have signed in to your WordPress Account a new pop-up appears. Click the Authorize button.

Step 10) Another pop-up will appear displaying your access token.

Copy this to the clipboard (highlight access token and press CTRL+C).

Once you have copied the access token to the clipboard, click the Thanks I’ve copied by access token button to close the window.

Step 11) On the left-hand sidebar of the Dashboard navigate to BruteProtect. Paste your Access Token in the text box, then click the Link to this site button.

If successful, the BruteProtect Dashboard will display indicating same.
