How to Configure the Display of Related Posts with Contextual Related Posts
The fourth step in the guide to the Contextual Related Posts WordPress plugin will teach you how to setup the way related posts are displayed.
Step 1) Login to the WordPress Dashboard.
Step 2) From the Admin Panel, click on Settings >> Related Posts. On the toolbar at the top of the page, click on Output Options.
Step 3) To set the main heading of the related posts, enter it into the box shown below.
Step 4) You can choose to display a note such as No related posts found when there are no posts, or to have a blank output in place. Tick the box based on your preference.
Step 5) If you wish to display an excerpt in your related post list, tick the box below. You can also choose the length of the excerpt in words by entering it into the box provided. Default is 10 words.
Step 6) The next two tick boxes will enable you to show post authors and the post date in your related posts list. You can also limit the post title length in characters by setting the number in the box provided.
Step 7) Tick the box marked Open links in new window if you wish to open a new window when somebody clicks on a related post. You can also choose to add a nofollow attribute to the links in the list by ticking the box provided.
Step 8) The Exclusion Settings allow you to exclude the display of related posts on certain posts and pages, and to exclude the display of related posts of certain post types (posts, pages, attachments and custom post types). Simply enter the names and tick the boxes based on your preferences.
Step 9) You can customize the ouputs and set the HTML to display on different sections by entering the details in the boxes provided. Leave these blank to leave them as they stand at present.
