Step 1) Login to the WordPress Dashboard.
Step 2) From your Admin Panel, scroll down and click on Media Settings.
Step 3) On the Media Settings page, you can alter the size of your images. Change the max width and height for Thumbnail, Medium and Large sized images, and then click on Save Changes.
Step 4) The only other setting to configure on the Media Settings page is Uploading Files. Tick the box provided to organise your uploads into month and year-based folders.
Step 5) From the Admin Panel, click on Media Settings >> Taxonomies. You can add media categories here by ticking the box provided.
Step 6) Underneath your Media Categories, click on the blue link marked Add New Taxonomies. When you click on this, you can create new Taxonomies using the settings below. You can add labels and adjust settings to suit your needs.
Step 7) The next step is to assign Non-Media Taxonomies to your Media Library, including Categories and Tags. You can change the settings for each too, including editing the Media Popup and filtering the menu in a List or Grid view.
Step 8) The options at the bottom of the page allow you to create archive pages for media taxonomies, show non-hierarchical taxonomies in Grid View/Media Popup, and show media filters for meda popups. Save Changes when you’re done.

This is where you can allow uploads for different types of media files, including avi files, CSS files, PDF and more.
