How to Configure Facebook Comments for WordPress

In this section of the guide to Facebook Comments plugin, we will show you how to configure the settings to display Facebook Comments on your site.

Step 1) Login to the WordPress Dashboard.

Step 2) From the left-hand sidebar of the Dashboard, navigate to Settings -> Facebook Comments.


Step 3) Complete the fields as outlined below:

A. Email Enter the Email Address for your Facebook Account in this textbox.
B. Password Enter your Facebook Password in this textbox.
C. URL Enter the URL shown below to your Facebook Account including your Facebook ID Number.

For example,

To find your Facebook ID Number, click here.


If the fields were completed as outlined above (using your Facebook Credentials), they will display as follows:


D. Automatically import comments from Facebook From the dropdown list, select how often you want to import comments from Facebook.

For this example, Hourly was selected.

E. Add text to comment author’s name Enter text you want to add to the author’s name in this textbox.

For this example, no change was made.

F. Add default url to comment Enter the default URL you want to add to comments.

For this example, no change was made.

G. Email address to use as commenter’s email Enter an email address to use as the commenter’s emal in this textbox.

For this example, was entered.

H. Checkboxes If Run imported comments through filters is checked, this can interfere with other plugins such as spam filters, so unless you need your Facebook comments filtered by another plugin for something other than spam, it’s best to leave this option turned off (unchecked).

If Import for all pages of Facebook notes is checked, then all pages of Facebook Notes will be imported.

If Don’t notify admins for comments from Facebook is checked, then the site Admin will not be notified of any comments.

If Don’t import comments for posts that are closed is checked, then closed comments will not be imported.

For this example, these fields were not checked.


If the fields were completed as outlined above, they will display as follows:


Step 4) Click the Update Options button to save any changes.

Test Import

Step 5) To perform a Test Import of your Facebook Comments, click the Test Import button.

Manually Import Comments

Step 6) To perform a Manual Import of Comments, click the Manually Import Comments button.

Finishing Up

Step 7) Navigate to your Facebook Apps Dashboard.

Step 8) Find your associated page and note its App ID.


Step 9) If you do not have a Page or an App, click here to create a new one.

Step 10) Click into the App.

Step 11) From the left-hand sidebar navigate to Settings.

Step 12) Ensure your domain is listed in the App Domains and Site URL fields.

Step 13) Click the Save Changes button to save any changes.
