How to Configure the Video Player for Blubrry

In this section of the Blubrry PowerPress plugin, we will look at how to select and configure the Video Player.

Step 1) Login to the WordPress Dashboard.

Step 2) From the left-hand sidebar of the Dashboard, navigate to PowerPress -> Video Player.

Step 3) Click the appropriate radio button to select the video player you would like to use:

MediaElement.js Media Player (default)

The MediaElement.js is an open source HTML5 Audio and Video Player that supports both audio (mp3, m4a and oga) and video (mp4, m4v, webm, ogv and flv) media files.

This option includes all the necessary features for playback including a play/pause button, scroll-able position bar, elapsed time, total time, mute button and volume control.

The Common Video Settings apply to the video player shown above as well as to classic video formats such as Microsoft Windows Media (.wmv), QuickTime (.mov) and RealPlayer.

Step 4) Click the MediaElement.js Media Player (default) radio button to select this option.

Step 5) Click the Activate and Configure Now button to display the Configure Player page.

Step 6) Enter a width for the Player. If this field is left blank, the Default Width is assumed.

Step 7) Enter a height for the Player. If this field is left blank, the Default Height is assumed.

Step 8) If you want a default Default Poster Image enter the full path to this image in this textbox. If this field is left blank, the default image will display.

Step 9) Place a checkmark in the Upload New Image checkbox if you have selected an image other than the default image.

Step 10) Click the Save Changes button to save any changes and set this as the default Video Player.

MediaElement.js is the default player in Blubrry PowerPress because it is HTML and CSS based, meets accessibility standards including WebVTT, and will play in any browser using either HTML5, Flash or Silverlight for playback.

HTML5 Video Player

The HTML5 Video is an element introduced in the latest HTML specification (HTML5) for the purpose of playing videos.

The VideoJS – HTML5 Video Player for WordPress plugin must be installed and activated in order use this option.

Step 11) Click the HTML5 Video Player radio button to select this option.

Step 12) Click the Activate and Configure Now button to display the Configure Player page.

Step 13) Enter the Player Width. If this field is left blank, 400 is assumed.

Step 14) Enter the Player Height. If this field is left blank, 225 is assumed.

Step 15) If you want a custom Poster Image<, enter the full path to this image in this textbox. If this field is left blank, the default image will display.

The selected Image should be at minimum the same width/height as the player above. Leave blank to use default black background image.

With this option, you have an additional three options:

  • Upload new image
  • Include play icon over poster image when applicable
  • Use poster image, player width and height above for audio (Flow Player only)

Step 16) If you want a custom Video Play Icon, enter the full path to this image in this textbox. If this field is left blank, the default image will display.

Step 17) Place a checkmark in the Upload New Image checkbox if you have selected an image other than the default image.

Step 18) Click the Save Changes button to save any changes and set this as the default Audio Player.

Click the Select a different video player hyperlink to return to the Video Player page.
