The second step in the guide to the WP-PostViews WordPress plugin will show you how to configure how views are counted, and the display templates if you show them publicly.

Step 1) Login to the WordPress Dashboard.

Step 2) From the Admin Panel, scroll down and click on Settings >> PostViews.

Step 3) The first option is to choose from the dropdown whose views will be counted. You can choose from Everyone, Guests Only, or Registered Users Only. You can also choose to Exclude Bot Views by choosing No from the dropdown provided.

Step 4) The Views Template can be changed by choosing one of the allowed variables and adding it to the box provided. You can also change the name of the section (i.e. Views) for when it goes live on your site.

Step 5) The Most Viewed template that will show on your site can be altered by editing the HTML in the box provided on the right.

Step 6) The Display Options specify where the view counts are displayed and whether they’ll be shown to everyone or a select few. For each section, including Home Page, Single Posts, Pages and more, choose from Display to Everyone, Display to Registered Users Only and Don’t Display on Home Page from the dropdown menu. Click on the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page when you’re finished.

The next step in the guide will show you how to add the widget for the plugin into the sidebars of your websites.
