How to Configure the WP Rocket Advanced Options: Caching, JavaScript Tweaks and More

In this section of the guide to the WP Rocket plugin, we will show you how to configure the Advanced Options which includes Prefetch DNS Requests, and File Minimifaction and more!

Step 1) Login to the WordPress Dashboard.

Step 2) From the left-hand sidebar of the Dashboard, navigate to Settings -> WP Rocket -> Advanced Options.

Step 3) Complete the fields as outlined below:

A. Prefetch DNS requests: DNS prefetching is a way for browsers to anticipate the DNS resolution of external domains from your site. This reduces the latency of some external files.

Enter the domain names without their protocol, for example: //ajax.googleapis.com without http: (one per line).
B. Empty the cache of the following pages when updating a post: Enter the full URL of additional pages to purge when updating a post (one per line). You can use regular expressions (regex).

When you update a post or when a comment is posted, the homepage, categories and tags associated with this post are automatically removed from the cache and then recreated by WP Rocket’s bot.
C. Never cache the following pages: Enter the full URL of pages to reject (one per line). You can use regular expressions (regex).
D. Don’t cache pages that use the following cookies: List the names of the cookies (one per line).

E. Cache pages that use the following query strings (GET parameters): Enter a list of query strings which can be cached (one per line).
F. CSS files to exclude from minification: Enter the URL of CSS files to reject (one per line).
G. JS files to exclude from minification: Enter the URL of JS files to reject (one per line).
H. JS files to be included in the footer during the minification process To add JS files for this option, perform the following steps:

  • Enter the full URL in the textbox.
  • Click the Add URL button.
  • Repeat this process to add additional files.

I. JS files with deferred loading: You can add JavaScript files that will be loaded asynchronously at the same time as the page loads.

To add JS files for this option, perform the following steps:

  • Enter the full URL in the textbox.
  • Click the Add URL button.
  • Repeat this process to add additional files.

Place a checkmark in the Wait until this file is loaded? checkbox if you want this option enabled.

Step 4) Click the Save Changes button to save any changes.
