How to Disable the Admin Bar for WordPress Users Lower than Editor

Removing the Admin Bar requires making changes to theme files, but when you install theme updates, any changes you have made will be overwritten, so we recommend creating a Child Theme before doing this.

Step 1) Log in to the WordPress Dashboard.

Step 2) Click Appearance in the left hand menu

Step 3) Click Editor in the left hand menu

Step 4) Click “Theme Functions” on the right hand side, this should be representative of functions.php

Step 5) Paste the following code down the bottom of functions.php

if (!current_user_can(‘edit_posts’)) {
	show_admin_bar(false); 
}

Step 6) Click “Update File” to complete
