How to Disable WordPress Automatically Updating Minor Versions

In this tutorial we’ll explain how you can disable WordPress’ ability to automatically update minor version releases.

What’s a minor version? A minor version is an update to a major release and can be identified by it’s version number. Major releases are 3.3, 3.5, 3.7, 3.8, and so on, and an example of a minor release would be 3.7.2.

Since WordPress 3.8, updates to minor versions are automatic, and if you would like to disable this, you can do so easily, though doing it is discouraged.

To undertake this, you will need to have SSH/SFTP/FTP access to your server.

Step 1) Connect to your server.

Step 2) Locate and open wp-config.php

Step 3) Add the following code into the file and save changes.

define( 'WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE', false );
