How to fix the “Briefly Unavailable For Scheduled Maintenance” message

In this tutorial we’ll explain how to fix when the “Briefly Unavailable For Scheduled Maintenance” message remains after upgrading.

To fix this, you will require FTP/SFTP/SSH access to your server.

Why does the “Briefly Unavailable For Scheduled Maintenance” message remain after an upgrade?

Step 1) Log in to your server via FTP/SSH

Step 2) Find a file named .maintenance and delete it.

Note: the .maintenance file may not be visible by default, meaning you may have to toggle hidden files on in your FTP client.
