Welcome to the WordPress plugin guide for the Imsanity plugin (spelt correctly!), which is a plugin that allows you to automatically resize huge image uploads, and allows you to control the size of photos that contributors upload to your site without having to manually scale them.

Step 1) On the Dashboard of your website, scroll down the left-hand sidebar and click on ‘Plugins’

Step 2) From the ‘Installed Plugins’ page, click on ‘Add New’ at the top of the page. Alternatively, click on ‘Add New’ from the dropdown menu under ‘Plugins’ on the sidebar.

Step 3) On the ‘Add Plugins’ page, type in the name of your plugin in the search box on the right hand side, at the top of the page.

Step 4) From the ‘Search Results’ page, scroll down to your chosen plugin and click the button marked ‘Install Now’. If you would like to learn more about your plugin, click the blue link marked ‘More Details’

Step 5) The plugin is now installed and unpacked into your website. The last thing to do now is click ‘Activate Plugin’

Step 6) Once activated, you will be redirected to the ‘Installed Plugins’ page. From here, you can read all the info about your plugins, and deactivate and delete it if you no longer need it. Click on ‘Settings’ underneath your plugin to head to the settings section.

Step 7) On the Imsanity Settings page, make sure you read the developers information page before you start scaling your images up and down. There is a lot of good info to hand for WordPress site owners to get to grips with, and it will help them to better understand the way images work on mobiles and other devices.

Step 8) The next section allows you to change the scale (pixel width x height) of each image you upload within a Page/Post, upload to the Media Library directly, and wherever else you might upload an image (Theme Header, background, logo, etc.). The WordPress default for image quality is 90, but you can go as high as 100 or lower depending on the quality of your image. You can also convert your BMP images to JPG as soon as they are uploaded, if you wish.

Step 9) If you already have images uploaded to your library, you can use Imsanity’s search function to find all of your existing images and scale them to your chosen sizes without you having to lift a finger. This is great for creating consistency throughout your site. Just hit the ‘Search Images…’ button below and let the search begin.

Step 10) As you can see from the pic below, a number of images have been found. Tick the boxes of the images you want scaling to size and click the blue button marked ‘Resize Checked Images’

Step 11) The resized images will show in a new box at the bottom of the page, followed by the news RESIZE COMPLETE. Your images are now to scale throughout your entire site.
