In this section of the guide to the MarketPress eCommerce plugin we will take a look at adding Product Categories.

Product Categories are a convenient way to organize your products. You can have parent and child categories making a hierarchical arrangement of your products possible. You can also assign these products to multiple categories.

Step 1) Login to the WordPress Dashboard.

Step 2) On the left-hand sidebar of the Dashboard navigate to Products -> Product Categories.

To add a new Product Category, complete the fields as shown below.

A. Add New Category In this text box, enter a unique name for the Category.
B. Slug The Slug is the URL-friendly version of the Category name. It is usually all lowercase and contains only letters, numbers, and hyphens. If no Slug name is entered when the Category is added, one will be automatically assigned.
C. Parent In the dropdown list, you can assign the new category to be a sub-category of a parent category. For this example, None was selected.
D. Description In this text area, enter a description for the Category.
E. Add New Category Button Click the button to add the new Category.
F. Category List Once the Category has been added, it will be displayed in the Category List shown below.

To edit, delete or view a Category, mouse-over any Category name to display a sub-menu. Click the appropriate hyperlink.
