How to Manage Roles in Members

In this section of the guide to the Members plugin, we will show you how to edit roles, delete roles and view users assigned to a role.

Step 1) Login to the WordPress Dashboard.

Step 2) From the left-hand sidebar of the Dashboard navigate to Users -> Roles.

Edit a Role

Step 3) Mouse over any Role Label to display a sub-menu.

Step 4) Click the Edit hyperlink.

Step 5) Edit the fields as follows:

A. Role Name The field is read-only and is not editable.
B. Capabilities Place/remove checkmarks in the appropriate checkboxes for any additional actions you want to assign to or remove from this role.
C. Custom Capabilities You can add new capabilities to the Edit Roles component. This will allow users to easily select the additional capabilities for whichever roles they choose.

Click the Add New Capability button to display a texthox where you can enter the new Capability.

For this example, no Custom Capabilities were entered.

Step 6) Click the Update Role button to complete this process.

Delete a Role

Step 7) Mouse over any Role Label to display a sub-menu.

Step 8) Click the Delete hyperlink.

You will not be prompted to confirm the deletion.
Please use caution.

Bulk Delete Roles

Step 9) Place checkmarks in the checkboxes of the roles to be deleted.

Step 10) From the Bulk Actions dropdown list, select Delete.

Step 11) Click the Apply button to complete this process.

View Users Assigned to a Role

Step 12) Mouse over any Role Label to display a sub-menu.

For this example, the Administrator Role will be used as there are 2 (two) users assigned to this role.

Step 13) Click the View Users hyperlink to display a list of these users.
