If I turn off comments, it says “Comments are closed” on the weblog. How do I remove that?

If you disable comments on a single post then you’ll see the message “Comments are closed” and in this tutorial we’re going to show you how to remove that.

Many tutorials recommend modifying the comments.php or style.css file of your theme in order to achieve this. However, it is strongly advised that you do not do this. In the event that your theme is updated, any changes you have made will be lost.

Therefore we recommend use of a Child Theme. That way you can make your own changes without the risk of them being lost when you update your theme — which you should always do.

Step 1) Create a Child Theme

Step 2) Identify the CSS class that applies to “Comments are closed.” If you view the page source you can easily find it as follows.

<p class="no-comments">Comments are closed.</p>

Step 3) Write the following CSS into the style.css file of your child theme.

.no-comments {
	display: none;
}

You can do this through the WordPress Dashboard, or via SFTP/SSH.

Step 4) Save the changes to style.css

This will completely remove the text and, in this instance, light yellow square where it resides.
