The next step in the guide to the SEO Ultimate WordPress plugin concentrates on the File Editor section of the Plugin.

Step 1) Login to the WordPress Dashboard.

Step 2) Click on File Editor on the SEO dropdown on the Dashboard’s left-hand sidebar. On this page, you can add a custom Robots.txt file and disable the default file, and allow for plugins you have also downloaded to add rules to your custom file. Robots are what crawl your site and in the case of Google, can affect your search rankings based on what they find.

If your .htaccess file is writable, you can make it easier and harder for robots to crawl your site by adding your own custom file. However, if you are unsure of how to do this, leave it as your default file, as you could end up blocking the likes of Google, Bing and Yahoo from your site and affect your search rankings as a result.

Note, we don’t suggest making any changes to these files unless you’re familiar with what to do.

The next step of the guide will focus on how to Tidy Up Links with SEO Ultimate’s Link Mask Generator.
