How to Customize Robot Meta Tags with SEO Ultimate
The next step in the guide to the SEO Ultimate WordPress plugin will focus on the Meta Robot Tags throughout your site, and how you can edit and optimise them.
Step 1) Login to the WordPress Dashboard.
Step 2) On the Dashboard sidebar, scroll down to SEO and choose Meta Robot Tags from the dropdown menu. From this page, you will be able to edit the tags that feature throughout your site, which will in turn make it easier for search engine robots (or crawlers, or spiders) to crawl your site and determine what you should be ranking for and how high in those rankings to place your sites posts and pages.
From the Sitewide Values section, you can give instructions to the spiders that crawl the site regarding whether or not the Open Directory and Yahoo Directory description feature in search results. You can also choose not to cache or archive the site.
Step 3) On the Default Values section of the Toolbar, you can determine which sections of your site are not to be indexed, including blog search pages, author archives and any other pages and sub-pages where content is archived.
Step 4) On the Posts section of the Toolbar, you can decide which posts are indexed and which ones should be left from the sitemap, which robots will crawl when ranking your site. You can also choose to add a NoFollow to posts, meaning that the search engines will not consider those posts when evaluating your sites links.
Step 5) The same rules apply to the Pages section, and every other section of your site, including Media (photos, videos and documents), Forums (and the Replies and Topics, if you have a Forum plugin installed on your site) and Events (from the Events Calendar – if you have that plugin installed).
The next step of the guide will focus on How to Use Open Graph with SEO Ultimate for Empowered Social Sharing.
