The next step in the guide to the SEO Ultimate WordPress plugin takes a look at the Title Tag Rewriter tool of the Plugin.

Step 1) Login to the WordPress Dashboard.

Step 2) Title Tags are used to create SEO friendly titles for your posts that are likely to show up in the search engine rankings because of the keywords used in the titles. SEO Ultimate allows you to write your own Title Tags, thus giving you better control over your SEO and improving your chances of being ranked well for those pages.

Head to the Dashboard and scroll down to SEO on the left-hand sidebar. Choose Title Tag Rewriter from the dropdown and you will be taken to the Default Formats section of the settings, which has a Toolbar showing the other options.

From this section, you can alter the format settings for your blog. This will alter how your sites titles will look in Google and co. For example, if you put WordPress Knowledge Baseinto the section marked Blog Homepage Title, and have the Post Title Format section as it is in the picture below, when a post goes live, it will look like this in search results:

Blog Title | WordPress Knowledge Base

Follow down the list to see if there is anything you would like to change, including the Date Formats, 404 Title format and more.

Step 3) On the Settings? section of the Title Tag Rewriter, you can change the Title Tag Variables so that any lowercase tag names are automatically changed to title case so that all your posts/pages/categories will be set as the same format.

Step 4) On the Posts section (and this can be repeated on all the other sections, including Pages, Media, Forums, etc.), you can set your own Title Tags for all of your posts from this one page. If you leave them blank, they will simply use the title of the post. However, this is a great opportunity to create a Title Tag that makes the search engines sit up and take notice of your content.

The next step of the guide will focus on Canonicalization, Author Highlighting, Webmaster Setup, and More with SEO Ultimate.
