Using Wordfence Security’s Whois Lookup to Identify Attackers

This section of the Wordfence Security guide looks at the Whois Lookup feature of the Plugin.

Step 1) Login to the WordPress Dashboard.

Step 2) On the Left-hand sidebar of the Dashboard, choose Wordfence and then click on Whois Lookup on the dropdown menu.


Step 3) Whois is a web service that checks websites and IP addresses for their owners and gives the details to the person that is looking for it. This is used by Wordfence Security as a way for users to find out who the owners of web addresses that are acting suspiciously on their sites (spamming, various attempted logins, etc.) and find their email addresses so you can report them to the ‘abuse’ email address. It is a great way to help close down malicious websites.
