This guide to the WordPress SEO by Yoast plugin will show you how to configure the Advanced Settings of the plugin, which include the breadcrumbs, permalinks and RSS feed of your website.

Step 1) Login to the WordPress Dashboard.

Step 2) From the Admin Panel, click on SEO >> Advanced. At the top of the page, you can choose from Breadcrumbs, Permalinks and RSS. Starting with Breadcrumbs, you can enable breadcrumbs (which are used to improve the navigation of your site – from post, to category, to the next post, or from child page, to parent page etc. – and allows search engines to understand the structure of your site) and use the options below to set them up properly.

Step 3) The Permalinks section is next, and starts with changing URLs so that they exclude /category/ style URLs and redirect attachment URLs to the parent post URLs. This makes for cleaner SEO.

Step 4) The Clean up Permalinks section is used to make your URLs look more attractive, and ultimately lead to better search rankings by removing odd words and redirecting poor URLs to better ones.

Step 5) Cleaning up the <head> section means that any unwanted links (including shortlinks for posts, RSS feed links and more) will be deleted, as they are not necessary and will not help your search rankings.

Step 6) The RSS feed section is useful because it will automatically add content to your RSS feed, and help identify you as the author of the original posts to the search engines. Simply fill in the boxes below to create the content that will show before and after each post in the feed.
