WordPress SEO Setup Guide: Social Options
In this article on WordPress SEO by Yoast we will focus on the Social Settings of the plugin, which include adding URLs of your social media profiles to link them to your site, including Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and more.
Step 1) Login to the WordPress Dashboard.
Step 2) From the Admin Panel, click on SEO >> Social. The first section is Accounts. This is where you can link up your social media profiles with your website, to inform Google of them. These include Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and more. Simply add your profile page URLs into the boxes shown below.
Step 3) Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google+ have their own sections, with their own settings. Facebook’s starts with adding Open Graph data to the <head> section of your site, so that your page connects with your site. The Admin of your Facebook page will have to be added using the Insights and Admins section shown below. You can also add your Facebook App ID (if you have an app) and add a default image URL to your posts/pages, if you are not using images in your posts.
Step 4) The Twitter section allows you to add Twitter card meta data to the <head> section of your website, connecting it to everything. You can choose the default card type to use, including a summary, or a summary with a large image.
Step 5) Pinterest uses Open Graph metadata much like Facebook, and in this section, you can verify your Pinterest site by adding the code into the box shown below. If you haven’t verified your site with Pinterest yet, follow the link and grab the meta tag it gives you, then add it to the box.
Step 6) The Google+ section is important if you have a Google+ page, and are focusing your SEO efforts on Google. Tick the box to add Google+ specific post meta data to your website, and if you are a business, add the URL of your business page to the box provided.
The next step in the guide will take a look at XML Sitemaps.
